The brief
The owners of this 1980s home were happy with its exterior, but the interior layout didn’t suit their lifestyle. The dark entrance hall divided the house in two, with much of the rooms on the left side underused. They wanted a reconfiguration that would create a welcoming entrance and improve the flow, as well as a new, light-filled kitchen, dining, and family area that better fit their needs.
Our approach
We recommended relocating the front door to create a more inviting entryway and redesigned the floor plan to improve the flow throughout the home. The layout was adjusted to provide a well-connected kitchen, dining, and family space, while also preserving a separate formal living room for more flexibility. A single-storey rear extension allowed for additional kitchen space and brought in more natural light.
The outcome
The transformation of this home has brought new life to its interior, making it both functional and beautiful. The redesigned entrance now greets the family with a vista straight through to the garden, creating an airy, open feel. The new kitchen and dining space is flooded with natural light thanks to roof lanterns, while sliding doors with flush thresholds provide seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The pantry, a baker’s dream, is perfect for the owner’s needs, and the well-planned utility room keeps the family spaces clutter-free. The black overhang and hidden gutters give the exterior a modern touch, and the flexible spaces inside are perfect for both everyday living and entertaining when the grandchildren visit.
